At the end of last year I announced that I was going to be offering an internship in 2017. At the very end of December, I had a FLOOD of applications. I'm not even kidding. 16 very qualified, very lovely women expressed interest in working with me! Not bad for my first internship offering. :)
Throughout January I held meet and greets with all the ladies then painfully narrowed the list to the top four candidates for formal interviews. I never imagined choosing an intern would require so much time, thought and careful consideration!
I felt an instant connection with Megan from the start. Her smile was warm and welcoming. She seemed genuine, relatable, she asked intelligent questions and made great conversation.
I'm always wary of women who say they planned their own wedding and now they want to be a wedding planner (Megan got married to the love of her life last year!). They usually don't realize how UN-glamorous being a wedding planner really is -- sorry to break it to you if you have delusions of grandeur! Some times you have to move 100 chairs from ceremony site to reception, hold the ring bearer dog so it doesn't eat the flowers, stand outside with umbrellas held over photographers in the middle of a rain/wind storm, buss tables, cut cake, steam dresses, load cars after the reception...you get the picture. It's a lot of hard work and long hours -- nothing like how the movie "Wedding Planner" makes it seem!
But Megan was different. I could tell that she really wants to learn the whole scope of the wedding planning process, not just the fun stuff that make some women fall in love with the idea of wedding planning as a career path, like cake tasting and flower choosing. When she told me that she was ready and willing to help in absolutely any capacity and wasn't afraid to "get her hands dirty" I knew she was for real and not just another former bride with rose-colored wedding planning glasses on. ;)
I selected her to be my intern (and I was thrilled when she said yes!) because she exudes the quiet confidence and classic sophistication that Wedding Wise is all about. She is eager to learn and provide seamless, stress-free wedding experiences for our clients!
I'm excited to introduce her to you today. I hope you enjoy getting to know Megan as I have!
