2017 is here! I am so glad that we are on to a fresh beginning with a new year, but sad to say goodbye to 2016 at the same time. We finished the year with 17 weddings, a new brand and website launch in January, a few fun styled shoot collaborations with other pros, and more!
Here is a recap of our year!
We started off the year with our annual Pantone Color of the Year shoot! Rose quartz and serenity blue (yes, there were 2 colors in 2016!) were the headliners of our cotton candy-inspired theme. One of the bouquet shots has been pinned on Pinterest over 400 times! You can check out more images from the shoot in this blog post.
We kicked off wedding season on Valentine's weekend with James and Victoria's wedding! Buckets of rain sent this sweet couple into married life with all the luck! Victoria's sweet smile and James' adoration for her made the dreary weather seem not all that bad. The ceremony at the chapel at Villa Academy was breathtaking and the Filipino traditions were full of meaning and symbolism. Guests enjoyed the cocktail hour and reception at The Woodland Park Zoo!
In March, I was asked to design a room for the Columbia Tower Club's bridal open house. I choose a theme that was modern, yet feminine. Lavender purple, soft ivory and copper accents were a beautiful compliment to the stunning view of Seattle from the 76th floor of the tallest building in Seattle!
Spring sprung just in time for Jessica and Kevon's tropical, vibrant wedding at JM Cellars. Favorite moments included Jessica's 5 adorable nieces as the flower girls ALL wearing authentic Taiwanese dresses, a guestbook "gong", and delicious pies for dessert! Check out more photos in their gallery.
Robinswood House officially became one of my favorite venues after Sandy and David's intimate enchanted garden wedding. I loved getting to know these two during weekly FaceTime calls since they live down in California. They fully trusted me to design a wedding day that was as elegant as they had dreamed. The result was stunning! View more photos from their wedding in this gallery.
One of the best parts of planning with Mandy and Andrew was getting to pinch their adorable baby boy Reed's cheeks at every meeting! As transplants to the Pacific Northwest, Mandy and Andrew picked a waterfront venue to showcase the beauty of the area. Their guests signed a mini surf board, danced to a live band and were treated to a gourmet smores bar!
Our only June wedding was that of Connie and Eddie from New York. We loved that they chose to sit with their parents at the head table, instead of the bridal party, to honor them. One memory I will never forget is seeing the bride and groom on the dance floor side by side all night long!
We took part in a styled shoot this year with over 20 wedding creatives in the Seattle area as part of a challenge presented by The Rising Tide Society! What made it unique was that there were multiple vendors representing the same category. We had 4 photographers, 6 planners, 3 florists, and so many more! One of my theme suggestions was chosen and we pulled off "Quintessential Seattle" flawlessly!
Catherine and Allan's wedding was truly one of a kind! Their first dance was perfectly choreographed (they took dance lessons together!) and the ceremony was so elegant with the historic Virginia V boat as the backdrop. We were obsessed with their personal touches at the wedding like a lego cake topper and a lightsaber send off! The party really got started when DJ Polz Star (the groom, Allan) made a special appearance wearing a stormtrooper helmet!
Zoe and Vince's wedding day was a family affair with many kiddos running around! So much fun. We loved their yummy food from Madres Kitchen. They were our second couple of the year to do a pie buffet instead of cake, and the guests loved it! It was a beautiful day and gorgeous daylight streamed in the large windows at The Great Hall at Greenlake.
Jessica and Nathan's wedding was one of my most challenging weddings to date, logistically speaking, but so rewarding! Their San Juan island wedding was full of delicious food, great drinks, and gorgeous soft colors and decor. One of our favorite moments were all the great speeches by the best man, maid of honor and the fathers of the bride and groom. Seriously, every one was amazing and touching!
We ended July with a hot, sunny wedding on Mercer Island! Amber and Al personalized their wedding with a science and board game theme! From the guest book lego wall to the homemade lab beaker candles, the theme showed off their love story from beginning to end.
Our first August wedding was Nicole and Alan's romantic wedding at the Edgewater Hotel. We swooned over the dreamy color palette of navy blue and wisteria that was carried through the bridal attire, flowers, signage, and even the personalized M&M guest favors!
Delille Cellars is another favorite venue of ours so we were thrilled to be back this year for Laura and Scott's special day. A highlight for us was the gorgeous reception tent and beautiful table design that was unique and simple, perfectly fitting of Scott and Laura. The groom and his mom surprised us all when they did the Whip Nae Nae during the mother-son dance!
August ended with a wedding theme that took us back 90-some years to the roaring '20s! Emily and Colin's soiree at the Point Defiance Pagoda was full of glittery dresses, feathers, suspenders, pearls and curls!
One our our most unique weddings of the year belonged to Anita and Enoch. Our favorite moments included the awesome soundtrack they picked out for their wedding that included songs like Baba O'Riley by The Who for the bridal entrance, a surprise food truck with mini donuts and toppings, and Anita changing into an authentic Chinese dress as a surprise for Enoch.
We continued September with Amanda and Mitchell's wedding. We loved getting to work at a new venue, Olympic View Estates! It was clear that the bride and groom were so special to all of their guests who poured love and blessings on them all day long!
It was my honor and privilege to help my best friend plan her wedding, not only as her coordinator but as her matron of honor! Their color palette was one of my favorites of the year. I'm going to write a blog post dedicated to Erin and Zach's wedding soon, and you will be able to see their wedding photos and story on a popular wedding blog in January!
I had to sneak in this photo of Erin and me. I just love it so much!
With only one wedding left in 2017, we had bandwidth to design this beautiful shoot inspired by the Pacific Northwest woodlands. I put together an amazingly talented team and am proud to report that the images were published on Once Wed at the end of December!
Our last wedding of the year was inspired by the Pantone colors of 2016 and brought together Dianne's feminine side with rose quartz and Jeff's masculinity with serenity blue. We love couples to bring both of their styles into the wedding! We adored their traditional catholic mass ceremony and the transformation of the rustic Kelley Farm reception barn into an elegant intimate gathering of friends and family.
On a personal note, my husband and I celebrated the end of wedding season for me and an awesome 3rd sales quarter for him with a trip to Prague and Vienna! We spent most of our time in Prague and we absolutely fell in love with the city. The architecture, the people, the food, the views.....I can't get enough! If you are ever planning a trip, let me know and I'll send you some tips and ideas! Or I'll just go with you and be your tour guide. :)
Whew! We certainly had an action-packed 2016!
I want to thank all of my couples for trusting me and my team with their wedding days. Your faith in us and your business are the reason I am happy to wake up every day and do my job. <3
Thank you to my great team who helped throughout 2016! I couldn't have done it without them. My husband even made a special appearance at a few weddings to help with more complicated set ups and my couples were always welcoming to him as well!
Thank you to all the wedding creatives I worked with who encouraged my success, trusted me and my team to direct weddings so they could focus on their jobs, and supported our mission to make weddings a unique reflection of the bride and groom.
And lastly, thank you to my amazing husband who supports my entrepreneurial dreams, helps me when I need it, doesn't complain when I'm gone a lot during the summer and is always interested to hear the latest wedding stories. :) I love you, babe!
Wishing you and yours a fantastic 2017!
